It all started in February 2003. Uematsu produced "The Black Mages," an album composed of FINAL FANTASY battle music arranged in rock style. He formed a group called The Black Mages and performed as the keyboardist himself.

OverClocked ReMix is a non-profit site that accepts high-quality submissions of arranged or "ReMixed" videogame music from talented ReMixers the world over. These arrangements are more than just updated versions of the original tracks, but are reinterpretations, often in an entirely different musical genre than the source material. What sets OverClocked ReMix apart is the breadth of its content - any musical style, from techno to hillbilly, and any console or computer game soundtrack, from Shinobi to Diablo II, is fair game.

The music in DooM was created by Robert Prince. It doesn't take a genius to realise that several of the tracks in the game were heavily influenced from rock music by other bands. Originally, Prince was asked to compose the DooM soundtrack entirely out of covers of rock songs. He disputed the idea knowing that some of the levels in DooM simply wouldn't have had the right atmosphere under those circumstances; so he and John Romero sat down and chewed out a mix of rock covers and some of Prince's own unique style of creepy music which we would now recognise as "DooM style." Since Prince used rock songs as source material, it's ironic in a way that some of the resulting tunes are actually remixes in the sense that they borrow melody lines and patterns from the source and turn it into its own unique music.

During the home computing boom of the mid-late eighties, Rob Hubbard quite literally became a superstar in the computer games industry with his innovative music for the Commodore 64. Rob Hubbard began his career as a programmer writing educational software and even a game, both of which apparently didn't work out very well. It was the positive reaction he received from the music he wrote for the educational software that prompted him to specialise purely in music.
