“Video gaming is a $10 billion industry that has a huge following in today’s culture, and this exhibit is a great way to discover the story behind game development, while having a great time playing a variety of games from around the world,” said Scott Beveridge, the Museum’s multimedia exhibit manager and the exhibit producer. “We found that during last year’s run of this exhibit, guests wanted to come back more than once for the Game On experience, and it was clear that it would be a great exhibit to bring back to the Museum.”
GameOn - первая крупная выставка в UK
From May to September 2002 the Barbican Art Gallery presented Europe’s largest ever gallery exhibition showcasing international leading talent and innovation within the multi-billion dollar creative games industry. The show presents a definitive overview of the past, present and future of games, from the earliest computer game through to the latest advances of blue-sky technologies and thought controlled interaction. Much of the show invites audience participation through a ground-breaking exhibition designed to transform the gallery space into a dynamic, experiential and interactive comfort-zone.
The various de-mountable components of Game On occupy a space from 500 – 1000+ sq meters. The exhibition features the earliest games computer, vintage arcade games and consoles, original games artworks, networked multi-player areas, profiles of key creatives from the UK, USA and Japan and a range of contemporary newly commissioned artworks from leading artists and designers (please see show synopsis for details).
As part of Game On the Barbican programmed a film season of games related films and a series of contemporary music events. Both were hugely successful. A series of public lectures and a high profile symposium of games industry professionals, past and present was also included.
